Ichor Biologics is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager for our R&D Downstream Processing team in Hyderabad. This leadership role is designed for professionals with a deep expertise in biologics and protein purification who are eager to contribute to the advancement of plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs). Responsibilities

Downstream Processing & Purification

  • Design, develop, and optimize robust protein purification processes, utilizing advanced chromatography techniques, Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF), and various filtration methodologies.
  • Apply advanced principles of protein chemistry to enhance protein yield, purity, stability, and overall product quality.

Scale-Up & Technology Transfer

  • Lead the seamless transition of processes from lab-scale and pilot-plant stages to full-scale commercial manufacturing.
  • Direct end-to-end technology transfer activities, ensuring all processes are scalable, efficient, and reproducible.

Troubleshooting & Manufacturing Support

  • Act as a technical subject matter expert to resolve complex issues during manufacturing, including yield loss, protein aggregation, impurity profiles, and process variability.
  • Provide ongoing scientific guidance and support to Drug Substance (DS) manufacturing operations to maintain high performance and quality standards.

Documentation & Regulatory Compliance

  • Author and review technical R&D protocols, detailed scientific reports, and essential regulatory documentation.
  • Design and execute comprehensive process characterization and comparability studies to meet global regulatory requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner effectively with internal teams—including Manufacturing, Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT), Analytical Research and Development (ARD), and Quality Assurance (QA)—to implement sustainable, compliant, and efficient production solutions.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 12–15 years of relevant industry experience.
  • OR Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 6–7 years of relevant industry experience.

Skills & Expertise

  • Proven technical expertise in downstream processing and protein purification within the biologics industry.
  • Strong track record of providing hands-on support for commercial-scale manufacturing over the past 5–7 years.
  • Comprehensive understanding of current regulatory guidelines and quality standards in the pharmaceutical/biotech sector.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a detail-oriented approach to process development.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in both laboratory research settings and large-scale manufacturing environments.
